Golden Boy chief executive Richard Schaefer has claimed that victory for Amir Khan against Devon Alexander will see him fight Floyd Mayweather Jnr next year.
Khan will challenge Alexander for the American's IBF world welterweight title in Dubai on December 7, in the first fight to ever be held in the Arabian desert.
A win for Khan would see him become a three-time world champion and propel him towards a huge bout with the unbeaten Mayweather in the spring of 2014, according to Schaefer.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Schaefer said: "Amir needs one fight at welterweight, along with a title, to set up the match with Floyd.
"This is very exciting for Amir and all of us. If he defeats Devon, preferably in style, the next step for him would be against Floyd."
Khan defeated Julio Diaz in his last fight at the end of April.
