IBF featherweight champion Lee Selby feels that his previous trips to the United States gives him 'the edge' in his first title defence against Fernando Montiel in Arizona next month.
The Welshman decided against fighting in his home country but the 28-year-old feels that the benefit of having past training camps in America will give him the advantage heading into the bout.
Selby told Sportsmail: "It gives me an edge that I've been out to America training, I've seen the big fights out there as well, I've been to all the weigh-ins and stayed in the fight hotel.
"So I've seen the fighters beforehand and really done it all except for fighting over there.
"Fighters like Joe Calzaghe and Naseem Hamed went out to America at the back end of their careers and if they'd gone out earlier they would have been even bigger, but I'm going as champion making my first defence."
Selby will fight Montiel with his world title on the line at the Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona on October 14.
