WBA president Gilberto Jesus Mendoza believes that Amir Khan's title fight with Lamont Peterson should be replayed after the recent judging controversy.

World Boxing Association president Gilberto Jesus Mendoza has claimed that Amir Khan's fight with Lamont Peterson should be replayed after recent accusations by the British fighter.

Khan recently brought to light footage of an unidentified man communicating at ringside in Washington with WBA supervisor Michael Welsh and believes that the gentleman may have affected the points decision which cost him his WBA and IBF light-welterweight titles.

Both boxing organisations have admitted that they do not know who the man is.

"The [Washington DC] Commission did not behave properly in this fight in seeking the fairness that needed to be [there]," Mendoza told BBC Sport.

"There was not the proper security in the arena, especially in the ring side zone where the Commission sits.

"There should be a direct rematch of this fight."

Khan's appeal over the points decision will be held in New York later this month.
