Kazakhstan's Birzhan Zhakypov has progressed to the quarter-finals of the light flyweight tournament with a narrow win over Mark Barriga of the Philippines.
Zhakypov picked his shots well in the opening round and did not allow Barriga to utilise his rapid reflexes to counter his attacks.
However, the Filipino started to find his range in the second and landed a few nice scoring shots as he sought to reduce a one-point deficit.
A good second round saw Barriga turn the scores in his favour and was now leading by two points.
The Kazakh stepped up a gear in the third and put Barriga under some pressure.
A public warning from the referee wiped out the Filipino's two-point cusshion in a final round that was being dominated by Zhakypov.
The referee then gave both men a warning in the dying seconds, but it did not affect a 17-16 decision for the Kazakh.
