Martin Murray prevails in Leeds farce against Jose Miguel Torres

British super-middleweight Martin Murray records seven knockdowns as he stops Jose Miguel Torres inside five rounds in Leeds.

British super-middleweight Martin Murray has recorded a fifth-round stoppage victory over Jose Miguel Torres in Leeds.

In a bizarre fight, Murray had his Colombian opponent on the canvas seven times, with several knockdowns coming from Torres voluntarily taking a knee.

Torres, who came into the bout with 27 stoppages from 37 outings, did legitimately hit the canvas from punches on a couple of occasions, but he touched down at least a dozen times in under a quarter of an hour of action.

After Torres was adjudged to have hit the canvas on the seventh occasion, referee Howard Foster waved off the fight due to the WBA's seven-knockdown rule.

Murray will now look to secure a world title opportunity, with WBO champion Arthur Abraham a potential opponent.
