Mitchell Johnson to miss first one-day international

Australia fast bowler Mitchell Johnson will not take part in the first one-day international against England in Melbourne.

Mitchell Johnson will be rested for the opening one-day international between Australia and England on Sunday.

The two teams go head-to-head in Melbourne in the first of five meetings in the 50-over format, as well as three Twenty20 matches.

Selector John Inverarity said that the National Selection Panel will look to give adequate rest to those players involved in the Test series.

"Mitch has had a brilliant summer with the Test side and while he is a crucial member of the ODI squad it is important that he has a bit of a break now," he said in a statement.

"The panel will be looking to provide a break, also, for most of the players in the ODI squad who played in the Tests against England."

Johnson was named Man of the Series in The Ashes after finishing with 37 wickets in the 5-0 victory.
