The hosts resumed their first innings at the WACA on 326-6, but were another man down in the second over of the day when Mitchell Johnson (39) edged a Stuart Broad delivery behind to Matt Prior.

Centurion Steve Smith (111) was the next to go after a review, although he seemed unhappy after Hotspot and Snicko could only pick up the faintest of inside edges on its way through to Prior.

The tourists thought that they had Ryan Harris when Ian Bell took a clean catch at gully, but umpire Billy Bowden's original decision was proven correct after Alastair Cook chose to use another review.

Replays showed that the ball had deflected off the tailender's thigh pad, but he was eventually sent back with 12 runs to his name when James Anderson found a thick edge and Joe Root scooped at gully.

Peter Siddle and Nathan Lyon offered stubborn resistance to take Australia from 354-9 to 385, and it was there where the curtain finally came down on the first innings.

Tim Bresnan wrapped it up with his first wicket, as he tempted Siddle (21) to play outside off-stump and edge behind for Prior to take the catch, leaving Lyon as the last man standing on 17.
