Australian bowler Peter Siddle has agreed to play for Essex in the Friends Life Twenty20 competition this summer.
The 27-year-old will join up with the squad for the opening game of the tournament, which takes place on in June against Surrey Lions at the Kia Oval.
"We are delighted to have signed Australia's premier bowler in Test cricket," said head coach Paul Grayson.
"Australia are looking keep him fresh for their schedule and for Peter, this will be a chance for him to enhance his one-day skills."
Siddle's move is subject to international clearance.
