William Porterfield has claimed that Ireland are capable of producing a shock against Australia in their World Twenty20 opener.
Speaking on the eve of the Group B match in Colombo, Porterfield insisted that Ireland's recent form proves that they have the quality to beat George Bailey's side.
"Irish cricket has been evolving for the past number of years and in the last five years we have been growing," the Irish skipper said. "We want to get wins more regularly and this tournament is no different and that starts tomorrow.
"They (Australia) have a lot of lads who are game-changers, especially in this format of the game, but the way we've been playing, we've prepared for this tournament and we're confident in what we can do and we're just looking after our game really."
Ireland will also face the West Indies in Group B.
