Steven Smith dazzles as Australia take command against West Indies

Australia post 258-4 over West Indies in day one of the second Test in Jamaica.

Steven Smith scored an unbeaten 135 as Australia finished day one of the second Test with the West Indies on 258-4.

Inspired by Smith, who notched his ninth century - and fifth in six Test outings - Michael Clarke's men dominated the opening day in Jamaica.

Jerome Taylor was the stand-out performer for West Indies by notching three of his team's four wickets - including opener David Warner (0) - as the first session began ominously for the Aussies.

Taylor then removed Shaun Marsh for 11, but third-in-line Smith proved a stubborn opposition and the Sydney native enhanced his burgeoning reputation at international level with another ton.

Captain Clarke (47) and Adam Voges (37) shortly fell by the wayside as Shane Watson partners Smith at the crease ahead of day two.
