Australia captain Steven Smith recorded his 16th century to push his team to 288-3 on day one of the first Test against Pakistan in Brisbane.
The 27-year-old, who now has eight centuries to his name since becoming captain, reached stumps unbeaten on 110, which included 16 fours, after facing 192 deliveries.
The Aussies bounced back from a torrid few months by sealing a 3-0 series win in their one-day contest with New Zealand, and they are now in good stead against Pakistan in their opening Test match.
After David Warner (32) and Usman Khawaja (4) were taken out by Mohammad Amir and Yasir Shah respectively, leaving Australia on 75-2, Smith stepped up to recover the attack.
Australia's first-innings figures were also helped along by Peter Handscomb, who nabbed a half-century and ended the day unbeaten on 64.
The hosts suffered a third casualty when Matt Renshaw was dismissed by Wahab Riaz for 71, but they remain in a strong position heading into day two.
