Steve Finn has been called up to the England squad on the eve of the second Test against India at Trent Bridge.
The 22-year-old's inclusion comes as England assess the fitness of bowler Chris Tremlett.
The fast-bowler carried a hamstring injury through the first Test at Lord's and missed training on Wednesday night before a limited practice session in the nets on Thursday evening.
Captain Andrew Strauss said: "I think he's fine, obviously he's had a bit of a niggle with his hamstring.
"At the moment we expect him to be fit but obviously like all these things we'll see in the morning - we're confident he should be okay."
If Tremlett is ruled out, Finn will be competing with Tim Bresnan for a place in the starting XI.
