Jonny Bairstow rues "disappointing" day

England wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow admits that day three of the fourth Ashes Test in Melbourne didn't go the way that he had hoped.

England wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow has revealed that his side are disappointed with their efforts during day three of the fourth Ashes Test match in Melbourne.

Bairstow contributed 21 as England were dismissed for 179, which leaves Australia requiring 231 runs to win the match, and the Yorkshire player has admitted that it "didn't go to plan" during Saturday's play.

The 24-year-old told Sky Sports News: "It didn't go to plan.

"Yesterday was obviously a good day for us, and taking the wicket this morning was a positive. However, after the start that we had, it's disappointing to end the day in the field."

Australia ended the day on 30-0 to leave themselves needing another 201 runs to take a 4-0 lead in the series.
