England have reached 98-2 at lunch on day one of the opening Ashes Test against Australia at Trent Bridge.

The Aussies landed an early blow when captain Alastair Cook was caught behind off the bowling of James Pattinson for 13 to leave the hosts on 27-1.

Jonathan Trott was next in to bat and made unusually quick progress at the crease with Joe Root.

England were looking settled heading into lunch, but Root was then bowled by Peter Siddle for 30.

Trott (37 not out) and Kevin Pietersen (10 not out) will resume out in the middle after the break.
