Chris Woakes, Moeen Ali ruled out of Afghanistan game

The England and Wales Cricket Board confirms that Chris Woakes and Moeen Ali will play no further part at this year's World Cup due to injury.

Chris Woakes and Moeen Ali have been ruled out of England's final Cricket World Cup match against Afghanistan due to injury.

The all-rounders picked up knocks during their side's defeat at the hands of Bangladesh on Monday - a result which spelled the end of their hopes of progressing from Pool A.

Ali suffered a side strain during the 15-run loss in Adelaide, while Woakes damaged his foot as he posted a total of 42 runs not out.

"Scans revealed Chris Woakes has a left third metatarsal stress reaction and Moeen Ali has a left sided abdominal strain," a statement issued by the England and Wales Cricket Board confirmed.

"Both players have been ruled out of the match against Afghanistan on Friday and will be reassessed when the team returns to the UK."

James Tredwell and Ravi Bopara, who both have yet to feature at this year's tournament, could now play a part in England's final outing against Afghanistan in Sydney later this week.
