England Twenty20 captain Stuart Broad has blamed the team's top-order batsmen for Wednesday's defeat to Australia in Hobart.

The tourists lost by 13 runs to start their three-match series on a losing note.

Ravi Bopara made an unbeaten knock of 65 for England, but four of the opening five batsmen were dismissed for a total of 44 runs as they chased a score of 214.

"There was some awesome hitting towards the end but we didn't lay a platform to give ourselves the best chance," Broad told Sky Sports News.

"We didn't play as well as we could have done. Scoreboard pressure played a big part and you're always going to feel the pressure.

"Ravi was awesome towards the end but we didn't really play as well as we could have done."

England and Australia play their second Twenty20 international in Melbourne on Friday.
