England bowler Jack Leach is ruled out of the remainder of the Test series with India due to a knee injury.

England have been dealt a blow after Jack Leach was ruled out of the remainder of the Test series with India.

The 32-year-old was selected in the squad despite having not played since June, a consequence of a back injury that led to him missing the Ashes.

Given his seniority in a team which included several young and inexperienced spinners, Leach's presence in the squad was view as key.

However, he will play no further part in the series courtesy of the knee problem that he sustained while fielding in the opening Test in Hyderabad.

Leach had posted figures of 1-63 and 1-33 in that game, contributing to a famous win, but he sat out the defeat in the second Test earlier this month.

As it stands, there are no plans for England to bring in a replacement with Tom Hartley, Rehan Ahmed and Shoaib Bashir deemed as suitable cover having impressed in the first two matches.

Hartley is currently one of the players of the series, taking 14 wickets at an average of 24.57 and recording 114 runs at 28.5 in what are his opening two appearances in the Test arena.

Ahmed has eight wickets, as well as 78 runs, to his name, while 20-year-old Bashir took four wickets on debut in Visakhapatnam.
