England want Jason Gillespie to replace Peter Moores as coach?

Jason Gillespie is the leading candidate for the England coach vacancy, according to a report.

Jason Gillespie is reportedly the first choice to become the next coach of England.

Peter Moores was dismissed from the role on Saturday, following former captain Andrew Strauss's appointment as director of England cricket.

Paul Farbrace will lead the team in the New Zealand series that starts next week, which gives Strauss the opportunity to take his time to appoint Moores's successor.

Former Australia bowler Gillespie is currently coach of Yorkshire and is said to be highly rated by incoming ECB chairman Colin Graves, who appointed him at Headlingley.

Gillespie took Yorkshire from Division Two of the County Championship to the First Division title in the space of three years.

The 40-year-old is the favourite to take charge of England and has let close friends know that he would be interested if he was approached, according to The Express.

Gillespie has been Yorkshire coach since 2011.
