England head coach Andy Flower has said that he doesn't expect to be working with Kevin Pietersen at the World Twenty20 in September.
Pietersen announced his international retirement from the shorter 50-over and 20-over forms of the game back in May.
He has reiterated his desire to play at the World Twenty20 in Sri Lanka but ECB rules state that a player can't retire from 50-over cricket and continue to be selected for Twenty20s.
Speaking of Pietersen's chances of featuring in Sri Lanka, Flower told the Mail on Sunday: "As things stand at the moment, no, there isn't.
"The situation is the same as it was when he first approached us. The ECB are determined to protect all three formats of the game and part of that is not setting a precedent of allowing players to retire from one-day cricket alone."
Flower, who tried to convince Pietersen not to quit one-day cricket, added that he fears the batsman may regret the decision as he is still in the prime of his career.
