England opener Joe Root insists that he is not worried about where he bats in the order for the Three Lions.

England batsman Joe Root has admitted that he isn't "fussed" where he bats in the Three Lions order as long as he scores runs.

Root has been promoted to open the innings alongside captain Alastair Cook after Nick Compton was dropped for England's warm-up game against Essex.

Root told reporters: "I'm not really fussed. I just love playing for England. I just want to keep representing my country and do as well as I can.

"I'm doing something I've always wanted to do since I was a kid, so I don't want to ruin it with nerves or getting upset.

"I just want to make the best of it and just really enjoy the occasion and the atmosphere."

Root scored 41 runs in his new role at Chelmsford before being dismissed by former England paceman Sajid Mahmood.
