Strauss: 'We have a point to prove'

England captain Andrew Strauss believes that his side have a point to prove in their upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka.

After climbing to the top of the Test rankings, England's first series as the world number one team resulted in a 3-0 whitewash loss to Pakistan.

While he isn't immediately concerned about their position in the rankings, Strauss is determined to respond from that defeat in the imminent two-match series.

"I think we've obviously got a point to prove. We have to bounce back after those results against Pakistan," he said.

"We are not focusing on the world rankings at the moment, it is not of great consequence to us. There is plenty for us to focus on and the rankings will take care of themselves.

"I think if you focus too much on that, you take out what's important - which is trying to win. We know the extent of the challenge. We've got to be very good to overcome those challenges."

Opening batsman Strauss averages 41.33 in 92 Test appearances for his country.
