Graeme Swann says that England's innings-defeat to South Africa was a "public humiliation".

England spinner Graeme Swann has claimed that South Africa's innings victory in the first Test at The Oval was a "public humiliation" for the team.

Swann has admitted that taking just two wickets in the entire match is embarrassing for England, but has claimed that they fully intend to put it right at Headingley.

"After a few days it doesn't get any prettier," Swann told Cricinfo. "Almost from the moment we turned up on day two the wheels fell off the wagon - it was awful.

"It was a sort of public humiliation by the end of it, fielding that long and then getting skittled afterwards. I think that prompted that meeting afterwards and prompted a lot of honesty and people saying that's not going to happen again."

The winner of the three-match Test series will be ranked number one in the world.
