Jonathan Trott has expressed his disappointment at learning that England teammate Kevin Pietersen has decided to retire from the limited-overs form of the game with immediate effect.
Batsman Pietersen made the decision last week in order to prolong his career at Test level.
Despite admitting that he understands Pietersen's reasoning, Trott insisted that the 31-year-old would be a big loss to the England side.
"It wasn't a huge surprise. You can understand it in a way, but it's a huge disappointment as well," Trott told Sky Sports News. "Kev's his own guy and has to make his own decisions.
"The team fully support his decision. Whatever he decides to do with his cricketing career is fine."
Trott was talking ahead of England's third Test match against the West Indies, which gets underway on Thursday.
