Jonny Bairstow should be considered for a place in England's Test side, according to former captain Michael Vaughan.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan has claimed that Jonny Bairstow deserves a chance in the Test team this summer.

Bairstow has impressed at the start of the county season and Vaughan believes that the Yorkshire batsman should be considered alongside Ravi Bopara for the series against West Indies.

Vaughan said: "I expect Bopara to bat at number six at Lord's but I would be tempted to throw in Bairstow.

"Yes, runs in Division Two of the County Championship are easier to score than in Division One, but you still have to be able to score them at the right times. If he gets runs for the Lions this week, it might be enough to push him in.

"He plays quality attacking shots but his defence is also a lot better than I thought and that is one of the most important aspects of playing at the highest level."

Bairstow will play for England Lions against West Indies beginning on Friday morning in Northampton.
