England bowler Mark Wood rested for third Test against Pakistan

England bowler Mark Wood is rested for the third and final Test against Pakistan due to an "ongoing ankle condition".

England have confirmed that bowler Mark Wood has been rested for the third and final Test against Pakistan in Sharjah due to an "ongoing ankle condition".

The 25-year-old, who made his international Test debut against New Zealand in May last year, took six wickets across the first two Tests in the United Arab Emirates.

The England and Wales Cricket Board has confirmed that Wood has withdrawn from the final Test, which gets underway on Sunday, in order to protect the injury.

The absence throws up the possibility of Liam Plunkett or Chris Jordan entering the fold, but England are yet to confirm their team for the showdown.

England are 1-0 down in the series after the opening Test ended in a draw and the second was lost by 178 runs in Dubai.
