England strike twice before lunch

England make inroads into the Sri Lanka attack, taking two wickets on the first morning of the second Test.

England have taken two wickets in the first session on the first day of the second Test match against Sri Lanka at Headingley to leave the visitors on 74-2.

Dimuth Karunaratne and Kaushal Silva got Sri Lanka off to a steady, if slow, start but the former was finally bowled for 28 by a quick one from Liam Plunkett.

Silva had already been dispatched when he edged behind to Matt Prior off the bowling of Jimmy Anderson for 13. England should have had a third, but Stuart Broad's appeal to review an lbw decision fell on his teammates' deaf ears, with replays showing that it would have been overturned.

The ever-reliable pair of Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene guided the visitors to the lunch break on 15 and five runs respectively.
