England have taken two late wickets to reduce India to 319-4 at the end of play on day three of the first Test in Rajkot.
The hosts found themselves in a strong position when Murali Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara each made centuries, but the former was sent packing along with Amit Mishra in the final two overs.
Prior to that key breakthrough for England, India had put up a strong fightback thanks to the work of Vijay and Pujara, as they looked to claw back their opponents' 537 runs.
Gautam Gambhir had earlier been bowled out by Stuart Broad for 29 runs in the second over of the day, as India accrued 99 runs in 27 overs prior to lunch and 69 off 29 in the second session of the day.
Things were beginning to turn for the Men in Blue but Vijay (126) could not hold on and Pujara (124) slashed Ben Stokes to slip, while the wicket of Mishara left India on 319-4, with Virat Kohli unbeaten on 26.
