India have recalled Harbhajan Singh for next month's one-off Test against Bangladesh.
It appeared that the 34-year-old's international career was over following his failure to earn a call-up over the last two years.
However, he has been selected to replace left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja for the encounter in Fatullah.
Discussing Singh's inclusion, India's chairman of selectors Sandeep Patil revealed that the number of left-handed Bangladeshi batsmen was a major factor in the decision.
"The Bangladesh batting order has six left-handers, keeping that in mind, we discussed with the captain and we felt it was necessary to have a second off-spinner," he said.
"I also want to point out we not only discussed Harbhajan. We also discussed other youngsters and considered them. Ultimately the selection committee and the captain felt this was the right choice for this particular tour."
Singh has made 101 Test appearances for India.
