India secure series win over South Africa

India open up an unassailable 2-0 series lead against South Africa after winning the second Test in Nagpur by 124 runs.

India have recorded an 124-run victory over South Africa in Nagpur to open up an unassailable 2-0 lead in their three-Test series.

South Africa began the day on 32-2, chasing a target of 310, but after Dean Elgar (18) and AB de Villiers (9) both fell during the first hour of the day, they were always struggling to get near their desired total.

Hashim Amla (39) and Faf du Plessis (39) put on a fifth-wicket stand of 72 before both departed in the space of a couple of overs, leaving the Proteas on 151-6 at tea.

Amit Mishra had chipped in with three wickets in the top order, but the rest of the South African batting lineup fell to Ravichandran Ashwin, who ended the second innings with seven dismissals.

He picked up his fourth and fifth scalps by removing both JP Duminy (19) and Dane Vilas (12) in quick succession before the tourists were left on the brink at 177-9 when Kagiso Rabada went for six.

Two overs later, the match and series was wrapped up as Ashwin took the wicket of Morne Morkel for four, bowling South Africa all out for 185 and leaving them with just pride to fight for during the third and final Test.
