Rob Key remains Kent captain

Rob Key will remain captain of Kent despite recently dropping himself from the team in the County Championship.

Kent batsman Rob Key has been told that he will continue to be the club's captain after recently dropping himself from the team.

The 36-year-old made the decision after a poor run of bat, but despite being assured that he is still Kent's captain, Sam Northeast is set to still be in charge on the field for the foreseeable future.

"Rob had a bit of a slump in form and dropped himself, which is unusual," chief executive Jamie Clifford told BBC Radio Kent. "He came back but decided he wasn't going to captain, on the basis he would probably score more runs.

"We are taking it as it comes. At the moment it seems to be working for both players; they are both scoring runs, Sam is enjoying the captaincy and the side is winning. It seems to be a decent formula.

"I guess we are slightly different to other sporting organisations - Rob remains the club captain."

Key scored 89 and 26 in the defeat to Surrey last week.
