New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum stands on the verge of making history following an impressive day of batting in Wellington.
After tormenting India's bowlers for over 12 hours, McCullum will return to the crease in the morning on 281 not out, 18 runs behind Martin Crowe's national record.
The hosts had been on the ropes at 94-5 on day three, but they ended day four of the second Test on 571-6 thanks to McCullum's heroics, as well as important contributions from BJ Watling (124) and James Neesham (67 not out).
The Black Caps, who won the first Test at Eden Park by a comfortable margin, lead India by 325 runs going into the final day.
McCullum's unbeaten innings has so far seen him face 525 balls, 28 of which have been dispatched for four. He has also hit four sixes.
