Ross Taylor makes history for New Zealand with double century at WACA

Australia close to within 49 runs of New Zealand thanks to the impressive batting of Ross Taylor at the WACA.

Ross Taylor hit a double century to help New Zealand close to within 49 runs of Australia at the end of play on day three on the second Test.

It was a record-breaking showing from the former captain, who accumulated the highest score for a New Zealander against the Aussies by reaching 235 not out.

The records did not stop there, either, as Mitchell Starc bowled the fastest delivery ever recorded in Test cricket with a yorker clocked at 99.7mph.

New Zealand headed into day three needing to make up some ground on their opponents at the WACA, with Australia declaring on 559-9.

Kane Williamson was the first to go after falling short of his own double-century triumph, racking up 166 runs before being undone by Josh Hazlewood.

Brendan McCullum could only reach 27, though, while BJ Watling went for just one as Australia attempted to tighten their grip on things.

While Doug Bracewell (12) did become the sixth and final Kiwi to fall, Taylor's fine individual work ensured that the tourists ended an historic day on top in Perth with a closing score of 510-6.
