Sri Lanka to follow on after being bowled out for 138 against New Zealand

Sri Lanka are bowled out for just 138 runs in their first innings against New Zealand and are asked to follow on in the first Test at Chirstchurch.

Sri Lanka have been asked to follow on after being bowled out by New Zealand for 138 at tea in their first innings of the first Test of their series at Christchurch.

The tourists began the session at 15-3 after Trent Boult had success in the afternoon session removing Dimuth Karunaratne, Kaushal Silva and Kumar Sangakkara.

However, Lahiru Thirimanne and skipper Angelo Mathews managed to steady the ship to see off the accurate bowling of Boult with the new ball.

Tim Southee was brought into the attack and snagged the wicket of Thirimanne for 24 as he was caught by Tom Latham, while the seamer also had Niroshan Dickwella caught for two by Brendon McCullum.

Neil Wagner was the next Kiwis bowler to enjoy success as he removed Prasanna Jayawardene, Tharindu Kaushal and Mathews in quick succession as the Sri Lanka captain departed for 50, his side slumping to 118-8.

Dhammika Prasad struck 18 off 18 deliveries to offer some light resistance, but James Neesham had him and Suranga Lakmal caught to end their innings at 138 all out, to leave the tourists trailing by 303 runs going into their second innings.
