Nottinghamshire Outlaws have confirmed that Alex Hales is in talks to join Mumbai Indians as a replacement for the injured Corey Anderson.
The England batsman will be available for selection for Mumbai's final Indian Premier League group match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 17.
Mumbai had initially put off calling in a replacement for Anderson after he fractured a finger, although having failed to regain fitness they have taken the decision to seek a stand-in for the remainder of the campaign.
A statement on Nottinghamshire's official website read: "A deal has not yet been signed and Hales will be available for selection for the NatWest T20 Blast opener against Birmingham Bears tomorrow.
"The terms of Hales's contract at Trent Bridge include the right to accept an offer from the IPL."
Hales was not named in England's latest squad for the first Test against New Zealand later this month.
