Salman Butt to return to Pakistan after serving seven months in prison

Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt is released from prison after seven months following an initial two-and-half-year sentence for his involvement in a spot-fixing scandal.

Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt has been released from prison early following a spot-fixing conviction.

The 27-year-old was jailed for 30 months in November after being found guilty of accepting illegal payments during a Test match against England at Lord's in August 2010.

Butt initially had his appeal rejected by the courts but it is understood that the ex-cricketer has been released after serving seven months of his sentence due to good behaviour and will return to Pakistan.

The former captain's teammates Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir were also jailed for deliberately bowling no-balls during the Test.

Amir was released from prison in February after serving half of his six-month sentence, while Asif's time in jail ended after six months, despite being initially handed a 12-month sentence.
