The Kings XI Punjab claimed a four-run victory over the Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League this afternoon.
The Kings XI opened the batting and their score was kept ticking over by Mandeep Singh, who made 41 runs from just 30 deliveries before he was dismissed by South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis.
Kallis also accounted for the Kings XI's top scorer when he forced Manpreet Gony to play onto his own stumps with 42 runs to his name.
Gony's exit resulted in the Kings XI struggling to add to their total and they went on to conclude their 20 overs on 157-9.
In reply, the Knight Riders struggled early on when opener Manvinder Bisla and Kallis had their wickets taken for just one run between them.
However, Gautam Gambhir (60) and England's Eoin Morgan (47) brought them back into contention. The dismissal of that pairing proved decisive, though, as the Kings XI bowling unit got the better of the Knight Riders' middle order.
Some big hitting from Rajat Bhatia (16) forced the encounter into the final ball, but the Knight Riders eventually fell four runs short of their target.
