Sydney Sixers grab a crucial victory in their Big Bash campaign by defeating Brisbane Heat by five wickets at the Gabba.

Sydney Sixers have secured a crucial victory over Brisbane Heat by five wickets in the Big Bash T20 League.

Both sides headed into the fixture needing a win as they try to edge nearer to the top four of the table, which the Melbourne Renegades currently top.

Heat took to the crease first at the Gabba after winning the toss but it was a disappointing innings for the home side, who lost James Hopes for a duck in the second over.

Luke Pomersbach and Joe Burns tried to gain some composure by racking up 37 and 27 runs respectively but Sixers bowlers Steve O'Keefe and Josh Hazlewood were on prolific from by snatching three wickets apiece.

Luke Feldman managed to claim two wickets for the Sixers, while Heat closed on 127-9 in the first innings of the Twenty20 clash.

The Sixers' standout player was Michael Lumb, who led his side to victory on 61 unbeaten, while Nic Maddinson and Moises Henriques contributed 17 and 12 runs respectively.

Daniel Christian and Ben Cutting both claimed two wickets apiece for Heat during the Sixers innings but it wasn't enough to stop the away side from clinching 128-5.
