South Africa lose Dale Steyn for second Test against India

South Africa will be without Dale Steyn for the second Test against India due to a groin injury.

South Africa will be without Dale Steyn for the second Test against India, which gets underway on Saturday in Bangalore.

The Proteas are already on the back foot, having suffered a 108-run defeat to their opponents in the first Test in Mohali.

Vernon Philander was ruled out of the entire four-Test series earlier this week after twisting his ankle during a practice session, and now Steyn is the next to drop out.

It is not clear whether Steyn will miss the rest of the series, but the bowler will sit out of the second Test as he has not yet recovered from a groin strain that he picked up last week.

Hashim Amla told reporters: "Both Dale and Philander are ruled out of this match. Obviously, losing Dale - one of the best bowlers in the world - and Philander - one of the best all-rounders in the world, certainly changes the dynamics of the team.

"But the guys who will replace them are quality cricketers. We are fortunate to have great depth in our side, especially in the bowling. We still have a potent bowling attack to back it up."

Kyle Abbott and Morne Morkel are expected to replace the duo.
