New Zealand have finished day two of their second Test against South Africa in a perilous position.
South Africa continued their first innings, with Hashim Amla and Faf du Plessis securing centuries before tea.
The Proteas batted into the third session of the day, with Dean Elgar closing in on a ton.
Captain Graeme Smith called his players back in to the pavilion once Elgar passed the 100 mark, declaring on 525-8.
In reply, the tourists' batsmen struggled against the South African attack, being reduced to 8-2, before reaching 47-6 at the close of play. BJ Watling was top scorer on 15 not out.
Robin Peterson led the bowlers for the home side, taking two wickets for just two runs.
