Sri Lanka, Pakistan opening Test in Galle delayed by rain

The opening Test between Sri Lanka and Pakistan in Galle is delayed by heavy rain.

The opening Test between Sri Lanka and Pakistan in Galle has been delayed due to heavy rain.

The contest was due to begin at 10am local time (5.30am UK time), but a ball is yet to be bowled due to the rain that descended onto the pitch in the early hours of the morning.

The field was covered overnight, but spells of drizzle continued over the course of the day, which has prompted both teams to stay away from the ground for the time being.

Umpires are due to carry out a pitch inspection at 2pm (9.30am UK time).
