Sri Lanka beat Pakistan by seven wickets in the second Test in Colombo.

Sri Lanka have beaten Pakistan by seven wickets in the second Test at Colombo.

The hosts were left with a target of 153 to win after bowling Pakistan out for 329 in their second innings, although they would have just the final day to reach that total after rain halted play early on day four.

Sri Lanka began the morning with openers Kithuruwan Vithanage and Dimuth Karunaratne at the crease, and they put on 49 for the first wicket until Vithanage was caught out on 34 by Mohammed Hafeez off the bowling of Zulfiqar Babar.

Pakistan struck again soon after when Kumar Sangakkara was dismissed without scoring. The batsman misjudged a Yasir Shah delivery and lofted a catch to Azhar Ali for only his sixth first-ball duck in Test cricket.

Karunaratne and Angelo Mathews saw Sri Lanka past 100, with the former notching 50 before he was trapped lbw by Shah.

Lahiru Thirimanne (16*) joined Mathews (43*) in the middle, and the pair added runs at a steady rate as Sri Lanka reached their winning target comfortably.

The series is poised at 1-1 ahead of the third Test, which begins on Friday in Kandy.
