Mahela Jayawardene has kept his wicket intact for the final session of day one in the second Test match between Sri Lanka and South Africa in Colombo.
Jayawardene earlier steadied the Sri Lankan innings after two wickets fell for just 16 runs, and the number four finished the day on 140* from 225 deliveries.
After tea Jayawardene continued to be supported by Angelo Mathews before the captain edged to Quinton de Kock off the bowling of Jean-Paul Duminy for 63.
Kithuruwan Vithanage came and went for 13, before Jayawardene and new batsman Niroshan Dickwella (12*) saw their side to the end of the day on 305-5.
