Sir Bradley Wiggnins is listed last following a crash on day one of his return at the Tour of Oman.

Tour de France winner Sir Bradley Wiggins has finished last following a crash in stage one of the Tour of Oman on Monday.

Wiggins was delayed by an incident towards the end of a 162km stage and the official classification showed him 91 seconds behind leader Marcel Kittel.

Team Sky have insisted that Wiggins should be awarded the same time as those he was riding alongside before the crash, which took place in the home stretch.

"There was a crash with 2km to go," said Team Sky sports director Nicolas Portal.

"Bradley was not caught up in it but he was behind it and there was a little split in the peloton as the riders slowed down. So with the 3km rule he should be fine."

Chris Froome led Team Sky but still finished 10 seconds behind Kittel in 53rd place overall.
