Alberto Contador wins Giro d'Italia

Alberto Contador wins the Giro d'Italia for a second time.

Spanish cyclist Alberto Contador has won the Giro d'Italia for the second time, beating Italy's Fabio Aru by one minute and 53 seconds.

Contador will now attempt to become the first man since 1998 to win the Giro d'Italia and the Tour de France in the same year.

The Tinkoff-Saxo rider had all but secured Giro victory in the penultimate stage on Saturday, and finished the final stage a few seconds behind the chasing pack.

Belgium's Iljo Keisse won the final stage, beating Australia's Luke Durbridge in the final 100 metres.
