Chris Froome makes history by winning fourth Tour de France title

Team Sky captain Chris Froome makes history by winning the Tour de France for a fourth time on Sunday.

Chris Froome has made history by becoming Britain's first four-time winner of the Tour de France.

The Team Sky captain, who previously triumphed in 2013, 2015 and 2016, had all but secured victory by retaining the yellow jersey in Saturday's time trial.

Froome sealed his fourth title by finishing 54 seconds ahead of Colombia's Rigoberto Uran, becoming the first person to win the race three times in a row since Spain's Miguel Indurain in the 1990s.

The 32-year-old now sits fifth overall in the all-time list of Tour victors behind Eddy Merckx, Jacques Anquetil, Bernard Hinault and Indurain.

The final stage, Sunday's 103km ride from Montgeron to the Champs-Elysees, was a largely ceremonial affair contested by sprint teams, rather than overall race leaders.

Dylan Groenewegen of the Netherlands was triumphant in this stage, edging German Andre Greipel in a frenetic final sprint.
