Peter Sagan secured victory in the men's elite race at the UCI Road World Championships in Virginia over the weekend.
The Slovakian timed his break to perfection, making a dash for the lead on a steep climb three kilometres from the finish to come in first.
He crossed the finish line just ahead of Australia's Michael Matthews and Lithuanian Ramunas Navardauskas, edging out the former by just three seconds.
Tyler Farrar and Kanstantsin Siutsou led the race with seven kilometres to go, but Sagan gained ground on the chasing pack going down the descent.
Zdenek Stybar, John Degenkolb and Greg Van Avermaet all made late bids for the lead, but Sagan dug deeper to take first place in Richmond.
