Geraint Thomas has retained his lead in the Tour Down Under following Tom Jelte Slagter's victory in the third stage of the race.

Slagter of Blanco Cycling produced a stunning last 1000m to storm away from the peloton and move within five seconds of Thomas in the process.
Matthew Goss and Philippe Gilbert beat Thomas to a place on the podium in difficult conditions as temperatures reached 38 degrees Celsius.
