Shane Sutton confident GB's cyclists can succeed in Rio, but expects tough task

British Cycling technical director Shane Sutton is "confident" that the team will succeed at the Rio 2016 Olympics, despite failing to win gold in Paris.

British Cycling technical director Shane Sutton is "confident" that the team can perform at the Rio 2016 Olympics, despite failing to win gold at the Track World Championships in Paris.

The team clinched three silver medals in France, but it was the first time in 14 years that Great Britain came away from the championships without a gold.

"It's a challenge that lies ahead," BBC Sport quotes Sutton as saying. "I'm confident that we can do the business, but it's not going to be easy.

"We're doing all in our power [and] we know we can lead these guys into a successful Rio. We know where we are and we know what's needed."

Great Britain won seven medals on the track at London 2012.
