Darryl Fitton, Alan Norris and Richie George have progressed to the last 16 of the 2013 BDO World Championships on an exciting opening day at the Lakeside.
Fitton was involved in a thriller with Dutchman Benito van de Pas, a player more than 30 years his junior.
The match went to a fifth-set decider but Fitton's experience saw him edge out Van de Pas when it mattered.
Richie George, son of darts legend Bobby, won on his Lakeside debut in equally dramatic circumstances.
George went to the wire against Dave Prins but came from behind to make it first time lucky at Frimley Green.
Welsh international Wayne Warren could not match Norris in the evening session as the ninth seed survived a third-set scare to ease through to the second round.
Jason Cullen and Garry Thompson also progressed on an opening day which saw defending champion Christian Kist dumped out by Robbie Green.
