Aden Kirk 'in dreamland' after beating Phil Taylor

Aden Kirk says that Friday's victory over Phil Taylor at the UK Open was a dream come true.

Aden Kirk has said that yesterday's victory over Phil Taylor at the UK Open was a dream come true.

The 22-year-old Nottingham thrower, who is a factory worker by day, caused a huge shock in Minehead when he beat defending champion Taylor 9-7 in round three.

Kirk, who had earlier seen off Conan Whitehead and Gerwyn Price, will now play Peter Wright in the last 32.

"Phil was my target this weekend. I'd played a couple of tough games earlier in the day but hadn't played too well," Kirk told Tungsten Tales.

"I can't ask for more than beating Phil Taylor, it's my dream and I don't think it has quite sunk in yet.

"I never give in and I just went up there and enjoyed it. I'd taken on board a lot of advice I'd received before the match."

Despite his impressive triumph over the 16-time world champion, Paddy Power and Sportingbet are both offering odds of 500-1 on Kirk winning this year's UK Open.
